Designer of the week, Dymuneca Caribbean Fashion Spot
Daphn?e Karen Flor?al is a jewelry designer from Haiti, an independent woman who believes that everybody can achieve their dreams. She adores reading, travelling (discovering new places and countries), and of course designing wonderful pieces of jewelry.
She started her business ?Bijou Lakay? in 2006 where she only participated in some fashion/jewelry related events. In 2008 she officially started designing as she then created her first collection and now she creates at least three collections annually.
To Daphn?e everything can be a source of inspiration, like; history, cocktail (- drinks), a country, or simply ?nature?. Her last collection was inspired by the Atlantic Ocean and the previous collection she used cocktails as inspiration where each piece represented a well-known cocktail like Cuba Libre, Caipirinha, Mojito, etc.
Her favorite collection is COCKTAIL as she believes that she exceeded her own abilities and performance while creating it and ever since she kept this rhythm. It was a definitive jumpstart and so different from her previous collections, she explains. She felt that she’ s really outdone herself and this collection was close to perfection. This collection also expresses well the feelings that she had when creating it.
Bijou Lakay jewelry is for all ages and countries, is easy to wear and affordable for most of the markets. You can say that she designs ecologically and socially responsible eco-friendly jewelry as recycled material is common in her collections and they are handmade by artisans who can provide for their family thanks to this (job). Her jewelry is therefore not only beautiful but also useful for the community.
If you want Bijou Lakay jewelry, you can check it out during the following upcoming events where she will be participating. In March 2014, she?ll be going to ?CarnaFam? a fashion show in North Miami, Florida. In May 2014, she is going to Santiago, Chile to participate in ‘EXPOSITION of Haitian Arts’, and also to San Paolo, Brazil for ‘AArte Popular do Haiti’. In the near future she hopes her brand will be recognized among the 10 top best accessories collection in the Caribbean market and South America and she would also like to have, by means of a partnership, some shops to represent the brand.
We’ve met Daphn?e during Carifesta XI at the Grand Market in Paramaribo, Suriname. We find her jewelry one of a kind and worthwhile to introduce to the world. Just like for her, it was a pleasure for us to have lived the Carifesta EXPERIENCE and meeting new people from different parts of the Caribbean, having one thing in common ‘Our Love for Beautiful Things’. Even if we do not always speak the same language, we do understand each other through our common interest in fashion and art! For updates and more information, just contact us.
We are always interested in and open for suggestions about Caribbean Fashion Designers we might have not yet heard of. So if you are or someone you know is a fashion designer from the Caribbean and would like to get featured here, just send us an email and we will contact you shortly.
